Breath / Light Meditation for Beginners:
Get into a comfortable position. It doesn’t matter if you are laying down, sitting, reclining, as long as your head and neck are supported and you are NOT in the same place you go to sleep in (example, your bed). Keep in mind meditation is about feeling and not about seeing. Do not worry about seeing anything; what you are doing is opening up the communication of all your feeling centers.
If at any time during this exercise you have a thought (or several thoughts) interrupt what you are doing, do not ignore the thought. Acknowledge the thought by saying lovingly and firmly, I am busy right now I will get back to you later, then go right back to what you were doing when the thought came in. Do not stop and talk to the thought but acknowledge it then go back to what you were doing immediately. If you find yourself already caught up in self talk that is perfectly ok. The moment you realize you are busy talking instead of feeling, instantly stop the conversation with yourself, and say to the thought you were talking to you, I am busy now and will get back you later.
Close your eyes and start to feel the natural rhythm of your lungs. Feel the natural in and out flow of your breath. Don’t try breath deeply or hold your breath… you are just becoming one with your bodies natural rhythm.
Once you feel in tune with your body’s natural rhythm, feel the presence of beautiful loving white light shining down upon you. With each breath you take in, felt the source of that light slowly coming closer and closer to you. Each breath drawing the source of light closer to you until you feel it pass into you thru your mouth or nose (depending on which you are breathing with.
As your breath draws this light into you, feel the feeling the insides of your cells (either in your nose or mouth) are feeling as the light is now consciously moving thru it. Feel your breath pulling this light deeper into you with each inhale. The light slowly moving down the back of your throat, feel how the cells of your throat are feeling as the light is now consciously passing thru each cell. Feel your breath draw the light down thru your esophagus and into your lungs… feeling the interaction with every cell along the way.
As you slowly take in this light deep into you, feel each breath slowly filling up your lungs with radiant white light. Feel the presence of this light in your lungs; feel the difference in your lungs as it takes in more and more light. You may even feel the light you are taking in is starting to radiate as a glow to the outside of your body.
Feel this light move thru your circulatory system as your blood carries the light down to your fingertips, thru every organ and all the way down to your toes…. Slowly with each inhale. Feeling every area start to light up and interact with this light that is now moving thru your entire body.
As you have light now circulating thru your entire body, feel that light starting to naturally break up all the stress and worries you are carrying in your body. Breaking up the stress and worries into tiny particles… and now with each exhale you can feel these tiny particles leaving your body slowly with each exhale. Each new inhale brings more and more light into your body and each exhale releases more and more stress.
You may start to feel like you are floating or lifting up away from your body… when you can achieve this process with little or no thoughts coming in…. you are at the doorway of true meditation.
